Admission standards are quite leniant.

For Honors, I think if your SAT is over 2050-2100 you are pretty much a shoo-in. My HS grades were very bad for Junior year and my UW GPA was a 2.8ish but my SAT scores were great, so I showed promise.

Top 25%, I think gets auto admission at the university. However, if you are top 10% with a CR and M totalling over 1300, then you get GREAT scholarship packages.

Getting into the University of Houston (UOH)is just aSep 23 2006Undecided
Getting into the University of Houston (UOH)is just a matter of being honest. If you do not have the best grades coming out of your senior year in high school, just be honest. Attach a letter explaining why your grades or ACT/SAT scores do not meet the school's requirements and then let them know that this was the past and now you are working on your future.

Because of my advanced age, I was allowed in without national test scores on the Adult Admission Option program, or something like that. Essentially, this program allowed me conditional entrance for a semester, with my grades being reviewed after that first semester for unconditional acceptance. Basically, sink or swim. Because I had not bothered with a traditional college prep series of courses in high school (in the '80s), this was quite advantageous for me, especially in areas like higher mathematics. From what I have seen from peers, and some of the kids in some classes, admission into UH isn't too selective. What you do with it once you get here is up to you. I cannot really advise one on how to get in from high school, beyond doing as well as one possibly can on national tests. I would advise anyone to do something else for a year or two at the very least, before going to college. The military is a great option, and will help pay for your education. The reason is this; I see far too many kids running amuck, skipping class, binge drinking, blowing off studying; in short, acting like teenagers. Best to spend a year or two getting the irresponsible urges out of ones system before heading to school and wasting time (and a lot of money). Not all teenagers act like this, and if not, go for it. But for you knuckleheads out there, think about this. Every class that you do not get an A in, you will later regret. You will regret it on a personal level, and you will regret it on a professional level later on. You have the rest of your life to act like an idiot, so don't waste your college years doing it. Good luck.

If you have good grades, you will get in easily. I recommend trying for the Honors college. If you want to live on campus, being in honors gives you an automatic in to the Quadrangle. You also get smaller classes, and the best professors in honors.
